7/1/12 - Charles River Watertown To Boston

Got out for a practice day on the the Mighty Charles for an upcoming tournament in 2 weeks. Fished with my buddy John. Launched at 6am, ended the day at about 5pm. Hot all day, with winds becoming gusty in the afternoon. We went as far up the river as we could, and also as far down as Museum of Science. We caught a lot of fish a lot of different ways, so quantity wasn't the problem. Just never caught found lot of size. John caught about 20 bass total with his best 5 probably in the 9lb range. I had about 15 Bass with only 3 keepers, 2lb, and 1-1/2lb Largemouths, and a 12" Smallie. Lots of sculling boats, lots of big boat trafic, and a 6mph speed limit makes for a long boat ride, lol

  • Sounds like a typical day for the lower Charles, lots of small fish, high winds, and lots of boats. A limit of probably 12lb will probably win your derby.

  • How deep was it around the locks? I've always wanted to take a trip down that far but never got around to it.

  • Yes me too I was extremely pleased to find out the Sud Res which is 5min from my house holds good size lm and sm and have had a blast nailing them this year.only prob no boats so sm disappear frrom time to time!
