Lake Winthrop 6/25

Am trip to Winthrop w/ Joe. Cold front came in w/ thunder early keeping us close to the ramp, and overcast never really cleared out. Air temps 55 - 60. Bass bite extremely slow, pics were active. Joe scored 6 bass, maybe 1 was a keeper. I caught 4, one 14 incher, and big fish of the last 5 years for me, a 8lber with a mouth so big I could put both my hands into it! Sorry did not bring any electronics camera phone ect so no pics. This cow was buried in some of the thickest milfoil and coontail. She took my Zman leopard frog rigged w/ a 6/0 gami hook, as it was just sitting on top of the slop while I was untangling a backlash. Realizing my line was moving off to the side I set the hook and to my delight felt her weight. The thick weeds tired her out quick and the 65lb braid and my frog rod brought her in. This made the average day fishing a great one! Needless to say the rest of the morning I allowed for a little extra time with bait sitting in between casts but I had no other mentionable takers.
