Sabine Lake Description

Sabine Lake (French: Lac Sabine) is a 90,000 acre (364 kmĀ²) salt water estuary formed by the confluence of the Sabine River and the Neches River. It drains through Sabine Pass into the Gulf of Mexico. The lake borders Jefferson County, Texas, Orange County, Texas, and Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The city of Port Arthur, Texas is located on its banks. Pleasure Island, a man made island that separates the Intercoastal Waterway from the lake, is home to the Port Arthur Yacht Club and a sizeable marina (home to over one hundred sailboats) that includes a public boat ramp. Sailing is a popular pastime, with a strong seabreeze that builds to 10-15 knots by afternoon and generally calms at night. Winds are usually from the south or southeast.
